Mass Intentions

Mass Intentions

The Mass is the Church’s prayer at which all of our needs and hopes and thanksgivings are lifted to God.

At the Eucharist, the community joins with one another in placing their lives and all that their lives contain before God for blessing. We are happy to receive requests for specific intentions at Mass. If you would like to have the liturgy prayed for your intention, be it in memory of a loved one, a special need, a celebration or a particular occasion in life, please contact the parish office.

How do I schedule an intention?

Please visit the parish office during office hours (Monday - Friday, 8am-4pm) to schedule Mass intentions for a specific date and time, although we cannot guarantee a specific date and time we will do our best to accommodate.

You may also call the parish office at (563)322-7994, or email at davstpaul@diodav.org to schedule your intention

What is the stipend?

The stipend or offering given, signifies the sacrificial nature of giving of something of yourself to associate more intimately with Christ who offers himself in the Eucharist. The suggested stipend is $5.

How many Mass intentions are accepted per Mass?

One per Mass

What happens on the day of the Mass intention?

The Mass intention is read during the Prayers of the Faithful and the intention is also listed in the parish bulletin.

Is there a limit of how many Mass intentions I can schedule?

Yes - 6 Masses per year: 3 weekend Masses and 3 weekday Masses with a limit of one per month.

What does the cross mean at the end of the name for the Mass intention in the bulletin?

The person(s) for whom the Mass is being offered is deceased.

Can a Mass intention be for someone who is not deceased?

Yes – it is then listed as “the intention(s) of” that specific person(s) and/or event (i.e., the intention of Joe and Jill Smith's 25th Wedding Anniversary).
